The Creative Assembly have today announced a brand new spin-off series for its Total War franchise titled, A Total War Saga. This series will focus on “pivotal moments in history”.
These smaller spin-off titles, according to The Creative Assembly, will contain the same turn-based campaign and real-time combat that we’ve come to expect from Total War games, however they’ll focus solely on conflicts that last only a few weeks or months.
“Sagas won’t be revolutionary new titles or introduce brand-new eras; they’ll follow-on from previous Total War games and inhabit the same time-period, or at the very least relate to it. But these are certainly Total War games,” said game director for the Total War Saga series, Jack Lusted.
The first Total War Saga game is set to arrive ahead of the next historical entry into the series, which is also currently in development along with the second entry into the Total War: Warhammer series.
“We’ve got more games in production than we’ve ever had before, and historical games form the majority of our forthcoming releases. We thought that badging these ‘A Total War Saga’ would help players understand that they are a spin-off and not the next major title,” Lusted clarified.
As for what the first entry into this spin-off series will contain, without revealing too much Lusted hinted that “it’s another spiritual follow-up to Total War: Rome 2, like Total War: Attila, and moves the time period forward in much the same way.”
