During Disney’s D23 Expo this past weekend, The House of Mouse unveiled the main cast of the upcoming live-action Aladdin that’s set to be directed by Guy Richie.
Live-action Aladdin has found its Aladdin, Jasmine, and Genie in the form of Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith, respectively. While many of you may recognise the latter two names, Massoud is a relative newcomer, so it’ll be really interesting to see what he does with the character.
Disney have had a pretty decent track record getting newcomers into their movies, Just look at Auli’i Cravalho, the voice of Moana, who has seen plenty of success since that movie hit theatres.
Scott on the other hand was a star in the latest Power Rangers movie and also had a role in movies like The Martian, Terra Nova, and Disney movie Lemonade Mouth.
Smith on the other hand is pretty much a household name at this point, though in recent times he’s had some pretty serious roles so it’d be nice to see him in a comedic slapstick role once more.
