Crates and Keys are Coming to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

Bluehole have revealed that a bunch of new cosmetic items are coming to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds next week, some of which can only be unlocked via purchasable keys.

Despite selling over 5 million copies in less than four months, it looks like PUBG is going down a similar route to other multiplayer shooters. Crates and Keys will be coming to the game that’ll bring a slew of new cosmetic options, and I’m not even mad.

On August 3 a brand new update is set to roll-out that’ll bring even more loot crates to the game, however they’ll include some pretty swish clothing. These loot crates will come in three flavours, Wanderer, Survivor, Gamescom Invitational.

The first two of those crates will be unlockable via the game’s in-game Battle Points, but the latter will cost $2.50 to open. However, it’s not all bad news as those who purchase the keys to unlock the Gamescom Invitational crates will actually be putting money into the prize pool for players at the Gamescom Invitational – hence the name. Some of the proceeds will also be going to charity.

The PUBG Gamescom Invitational is part of a partnership between Bluehole and ESL and will be a massive event spread across four days. The PUBG Invitational will include Solo mode, Duo mode, Duo First Person Perspective mode, and Squad Mode where the best overall score from three games played will determine the winner.

It’s a pretty good deal, and will include some pretty fantastic cosmetic items, see the gallery below for some examples. Obviously, the Gamescom crate will contain the best variety, but at least there are options for those of us who don’t want to get into debt over a sweet outfit.

Honestly, it’ll be nice not to look like everyone else, but at the same time, I can’t imagine the yellow shell suit is going to blend in very well…
