Blizzard are once again teasing the arrival of Doomfist, Overwatch’s rumoured next playable hero, via an in-universe blog post this week. Though it wasn’t live for long.
In a blog post on The Times of Numbani, an in-universe blog, the publication revealed that the Talon organisation targeted a maximum security prison in order to free someone: “Akande Ogundimu, better known as Doomfist.”

“It began in the early hours of the morning, when an unidentified aircraft approached the facility. Security initially reported that the craft had no passengers on board, based on radar scans. The craft passed through the range of the installation’s defense systems without incident, leading some to believe that Talon has moles within Helix,” reads the blog post. “Video surveillance from within the compound revealed a black shadowy figure emerging from the craft and descending upon the prison grounds. The unidentified assailant easily overcame the Helix security agents, leaving over a dozen dead. Medical records of the casualties reveal injuries and cellular degeneration matching other incidents involving the mercenary known as the Reaper, all but confirming the incursion as a Talon attack.”
Interestingly, the events in the post took place roughly three months ahead of Doomfist’s attack on the Numbani airport, an area which was teased ahead of the reveal of Efi Oladele the creator of the latest new addition to the game, Orisa.
The history of Doomfist goes quite deep into the lore of Overwatch having first been teased since the first cinematic trailer for the game. Since then traces of the hero have appeared here and there, so his reveal is a pretty long time coming.
Word on the street is that Blizzard will likely release a few more teasers before finally unveiling the character in a cinematic trailer. Though with the recent release of the Horizon Lunar Colony map and the references to another new character named Hammond.
Honestly, this is hard to keep up with…
