During Electronic Arts’ investor call earlier this week, the company discussed plans to announce a brand new “esports mode” as well as a new offering that’ll be the “richest Battlefield 1 experience yet”, at Gamescom next month.
Esports seems to be a pretty big focus at EA this year, with a new esports mode coming to FIFA 18, and much more. And it looks like Battlefield 1 won’t be left out in the cold. During Gamescom next month, EA has plans to announce a new esports mode into the game designed based on fan feedback.
“At Gamescom, we’ll debut a new way to play Battlefield 1 built for competition and designed with direct input from our Battlefield community,” said Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts. “Through a growing portfolio of digital and traditional broadcast deals, our spectator reach will continue to expand, with major brands set to engage this high-value audience through global sponsorships.”
“We’re going to introduce a new e-sports mode to Battlefield. People have used Battlefield as an e-sports product for many years outside of EA. It’s a fun fast-paced game,” added Blake Jorgensen, EA’s CFO. “But with 64-player, multiplayer, it’s a bit hectic and chaotic for e-sports. And so you’ll see some new modes coming out that will benefit a more rational e-sports approach, and pretty exciting for us for this year and really powering next year and the year after off of that title.”
But that’s not all. EA Games also has plans to announce a new “offering” that’ll bring “the richest Battlefield 1 experience yet” to the game.
“In addition at Gamescom, we will detail our plan for a new offering that will bring the richest Battlefield 1 experience yet, including the all-out warfare, epic multiplayer battles, and War Stories campaign that have defined the game plus new maps, deeper progression, and additional fan-favorite game modes, all in a single package,” revealed Wilson.
Currently, players are eagerly awaiting the launch of the game’s first expansion which was announced at E3 earlier this year, In the Name of the Tsar, which is set to bring new maps, game modes, weapons, and more to the game. So it’ll be interesting to see what this new offering may be.
I guess we’ll have to wait until Gamescom.
