At E3 this year, Nintendo revealed that a new main series Pokémon title was planned for release on the Switch in 2018. It was only mentioned briefly, but it sent fans into a tailspin because of the ongoing speculation around ‘Pokémon Stars’ – a rumoured Switch version of Pokémon Sun and Moon.
Unfortunately, it seems fans may have to wait a longer for the Pokémon series’ first home console game (if we can call the Switch that). In their recent financial update, Nintendo included a line on the game which said it is currently scheduled for “2018 or later”.
Now Nintendo could just be managing investor expectations of profits in 2018 by making clear that they should not expect the game to land that year, but either way it means Pokémon fans with a Switch shouldn’t get their hopes up either.
We’ll just have to satisfy ourselves with Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon which release for 3DS on November 17.
