According to a recent interview with Variety, Her Story creator Sam Barlow’s next game will be titled Telling Lies and will follow a similar FMV formula.
Sam Barlow has reportedly teamed up with Annapurna Pictures’ recently formed games division to create Telling Lies which will follow a similar pattern to his previous game but “will have a much bigger canvas and higher production values with Annapurna’s support” according to Barlow.
Few details were revealed but Telling Lies is expected to be a political thriller with 3-4 characters and will be a “spiritual successor to Her Story“. Sam Barlow went on to comment on why he focuses on the types of storytelling present in his games stating “The way budgets [in the video game industry] are allocated, it’s like you focus just on the blockbusters,”
Her Story was released back in 2015 to critical acclaim. It granted players access to a police database of interview footage following a woman’s testimonial about her missing husband. Annapurna’s first title released in April this year and was a collaboration with developer Giant Sparrow, titled What Remains of Edith Finch.
