Armando Iannucci, legendary Scottish satirist behind such comedy classics as In The Loop, Veep, The Thick Of It and I’m Alan Partridge makes a welcome return to the big screen for The Death of Stalin.
Based on the graphic novel of the same name Iannucci’s film follows the events that proceeded Stalin’s death and the ensuing power struggles between notable Russian politicians.
The film boasts an impressive cast including Steve Buscemi (Broadwalk Empire, Reservoir Dogs), Rupert Friend (Homeland), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter), Simon Russell Beale (Penny Dreadful), Michael Palin (Monty Python’s Life of Brian, Brazil) and Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent, Arrested Development).
Originally published in French in 2012, The Death of Stalin was written by Fabien Nury and illustrated by Thierry Robin. It has been published in the UK by Titan Comics who have recently shared a video interview with the director covering how the whole project came about and what went in to adapting the graphic novel for the screen.
The Death of Stalin is release on October 20th.
