Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is actually the 18th game in the acclaimed franchise, currently slated for release sometime in 2018, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, and PC, marking the first time the franchise will be delving into the realm of Virtual Reality.
The new trailer highlights the on-going conflict between the Kingdom of Erusea and the Ocean Federation, this time focusing on the Erusea side. Set ten years after the events of Ace Combat 5, the Osean Federation have entered Erusea’s territory with its giant space elevator construction. This is when Princess Rosa Cossette D’Elise of the Kingdom of Erusea steps in and encourages her citizens to fight the Osean Federation.
In Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, players will experience a story revolving around a number of pilots, not just a single pilot as in past series. It’s also been known that The appearance of the F-104 will also have a significant meaning in the story.
Ace Combat 7 is set to feature very similar gameplay and physics to previous titles, feeling familiar to fans of the franchise. For the first time ever, clouds will play into effect, allowing the player to use cloudcover to ambush enemies, but staying in the cloud too long can cause freezing damage to the plane.
Ace Combat 7 will support virtual reality exclusive to PlayStation VR. This is set to consist of a package of missions separate from the campaign, which aren’t accessible without VR. In addition, the main campaign wont be playable in VR, at least not at launch.
