Fantasy Flight games, the company behind various Star Wars tabletop games, and then some, have announced that they’re developing a tabletop game based on Bethesda’s Fallout franchise.

The Fallout board game is suitable for one to four players who can choose from five different post-apocalyptic survivors to begin their adventure. These survivors include Wastelanders to a member of The Brotherhood of Steel. Players will then embark on their journey across a modular, hex-based board which matches one of several scenarios and settings within the wasteland.

These scenarios span the last two games in the Fallout franchise (Fallout 3 and Fallout 4) as well as their expansions.

The aim of the game is for players to gain influence, allying with factions, and acquiring weaponry and armour. The legendary SPECIAL progressions system is also present, with an interesting tabletop spin. Experience gained can be used to increase development of each attribute, allowing for a custom experience depending on the scenario at hand.

Players can also choose to go into the game together, or go in alone to gather resources and allies. As the game progresses, the warring factions will gain (and lose) power and it’ll pose an interesting choice for the player to either side with the winning team, or throw caution into the wind.

Combat is done via a unique dice system which shows not only the number of successes, but also incorporating the V.A.T.S. targeting system with a dice that features body parts.

With a keen focus on decision making, players will be faced with many quests that they can complete along the way, some may be simple, others may require making some difficult choices. These choices will have consequences depending on the circumstance which may ultimately come and bite you in the ass in the future.

Ultimately Fantasy Flight seem to have encapsulated everything we love about the Fallout franchise in a single board game and I can’t wait for it to launch. The Fallout board game is set to hopefully launch in the fourth quarter of this year.
