This October, Best Buy stores will be hosting the 3rd Nintendo World Championships, trying to find the best of the best of.. various Mario Kart Time Trials. It’s an event that started way back in 1990, but then went unheard of until 2015.
Anyone can go and set a time to try to qualify, with the only difference being that children under the age of 12 compete on a different stage with a different rider.
Full details below:
I was curious about the original event, so I had a little browse at what prizes were on offer and they were brilliant: “The top winner in each age category were awarded a $10,000 U.S. savings bond, a new 1990 Geo Metro Convertible, a 40″ Rear-projection television, and a gold painted Mario trophy. Runners up in each age category received a $1,000 U.S. savings bond and a silver Mario trophy.”
There were also gold NES cartridges flying about the place, some of which eventually went for $15,000! Holy hella wow.
If you think you have what it takes to be the World Champion and win what I can only assume to be a huge 40″ rear projection TV, head to this website and register!
