Profits From Town of Light Sales Will Help Support Mental Health Awareness

A Cause to Get Behind

Game companies don’t do enough when it comes to charity. However, Wired Productions has announced that digital sales of The Town of Light will directly go towards benefiting and supporting Mental Health Awareness.

This is just the first activity in a year long campaign to raise awareness about mental health. 25% of profits from the Town of Light will go into a new fund to help support mental health charities including Take This, Inc.. Between August 16 and September 6, 2017 a portion of every sale will go towards this great cause. In an attempt to maximise this campaign Wired Productions and LKA have also worked with several digital retailers to grant a 20% discount of the game during this period as well.

This promotion is just the start. Kicking off a year-long campaign to bolster awareness and shine a spotlight on the importance of mental health. Proceeds will help fund essential services given by Take This, Inc; including providing mental health education and referral resources, as well as “AFK Rooms” which are staffed mental wellness spaces at some of the world’s most extrusive video game events.

Specifics regarding future activities, partnerships, and events will be announced as the campaign goes on.

Leo Zullo, Managing Director of Wired Productions stated, “The Town of Light, because of the themes of mental health within the game and its grounding in reality, starts the conversation. Our duty is to stand together and continue that conversation, not only to ensure that we dispel the stigma around mental health, but also to ensure that those who feel alone know that they are not, and are given the help they often desperately need. This promotion, alongside our extended campaign for awareness, forms only a small part of a much greater picture, but we hope they will touch many lives.”

Studio Head of LKA, Luca Dalcò, added to this by saying, “The motivation behind The Town of Light has always been one of compassion. The struggles surrounding mental health affect so many of our lives day to day; to shine a light on mental illness and tell the story of those who suffered without a voice in the past was our goal. To have the opportunity to help those in the present is more than we could have hoped for.” 

It’s true, mental health awareness is something that more people should be mindful of. Having an anxiety disorder myself, video games have always been there to provide a “safe space” for me when my mind got the best of me. Video games let us leave reality and live the lives of characters we could only ever dream of. Whether it’s for fun, or therapeutic they give us a chance to immerse ourselves in a place we WANT to be in, and grant an escape from the harsh realities we are forced to deal with on a daily basis.

TakeThis, Inc. President, Russ Pitts, said, “The biggest challenge people dealing with mental health issues face is isolation and loneliness. The feeling no one will understand or can help. And a lot of people turn to video games for an escape. Seeing mental health issues addressed in true and meaningful ways in a game like Town of Light can be a lifeline for people in need.” 

Not everyone with mental health issues will openly admit there is something wrong. Town of Light could be that release some of us need to break away from our issues, get out of our own heads for awhile and get a chance to breath.
