Destiny 2’s First Raid Gets a Release Date

While Bungie has mostly remained tight-lipped over the details regarding Destiny 2’s first Raid, at least we finally got a release date.

Destiny 2’s first Raid will release a WEEK after the launch of the game itself. This means players have only one week to level up their Guardians in time to take on the Raid! The Trials will launch a few days past that on September 15. All Nightfall activities will be active however, from launch day.

Thanks to the PlayStation trophy list leak from last week, we know the Raid’s name will be “Leviathan”. Obviously, since this leak fans have banded together to formulate just what and where this Raid will be. Mostly, they have been going off of the concept art surrounding a giant, planet eating fish-type… thing? The concept art featured above, is said photo, BUT Bungie recently updated the image to include a GUARDIANS SHIP!! This pretty much solidifies fans hypotheses about the Raid.

On top of that, a Reddit thread has picked apart the Destiny 2 ‘Worlds of Destiny 2’ video and found an image depicting Guardians standing on a rocky ledge, staring out into a void of floating rocks with an orange glow in the background. Much like the interior of the ‘Leviathan’ concept art image. Hmmmmmm.

On top of THAT, fans have also figured out that the concept art image has a cluster of blue stars to the left. This group of stars actually make out the shape of the constellation Cetus, which, according to Greek mythos, was a sea monster, more specifically.. a Leviathan. Sneaky Bungie.

So what IS Leviathan??

Well, I’m glad you asked.

There are multiple possibilities of what this giant, planetoid-eating construct could be. Going off of the Imgur post; the Leviathan’s mouth is very closely shaped to that of the Cabal, when you see them without their helmets. Not to mention the worms on the cover of the Collector’s Edition box. Maybe Leviathan is a Cabal super-weapon, or since it has a city on it’s head, maybe it is even their home base?!

On the other hand, there is a Leviathan referenced in the Grimoire Cards, which tells the backstory of Oryx, the ‘Taken King’ from the first game’s expansion. This has been heavily hinted to be an ally of the Light, or Traveller. Seeing as how ‘The Light’ is the focus of Destiny 2, it’s not a far reach to think that this Leviathan could absolutely be relevant. Unfortunately, there isn’t too much other evidence to support this theory at this time.

However, a more possible theory comes from another Grimoire Card, regarding the Jovian entities, also called “The Nine Theorises”. This states that they are “ancient leviathan intelligences from the seas of Europa or the hydrocarbon pits of Titan.” A hoodie worn by game director Luke Smith during the reveal event had the SAME blue symbols as the ‘Lest Ye Be Judged’ trophy, which you earn for meeting an Emissary of the Nine. Granted, it’s a hoodie, so going off of this could easily be a stretch, BUT crazier fan theories have been proven off less! IF this is the case it does mean the Leviathan could in fact be connected to the Nine.

What do you think? Could we in fact be heading to a giant, planetoid consuming, space fish for our first Raid? Let us know in the comments below, and for everything Destiny 2 related stick with us here at n3rdabl3!
