It looks like Futurama may be back for one more episode, however it won’t be aired on TV, oh no, the cast are instead reuniting for a one off “radio drama”.
Us Futurama fans have had our hopes raised and dashed too many times, first it was cancelled, then it was back, then Netflix decided to remove the series from its US service only for Hulu to swoop in and save the day. Now, the cast are back for one more episode, however according to USA Today, it’ll be a 42 minute radio drama.
The original cast are set to return for this one-off Podcast-like episode which will debut on September 14 on Soundcloud and Nerdist. It’s called “Radiorama” and will feature “Fry (Billy West’s ’90s pizza guy), Leela (Katey Sagal’s one-eyed ship captain), and an appropriately-meta adversary: Klaxxon (Chris Hardwick), a nefarious life form composed entirely of soundwaves from 21st-century podcasts,” according to USA Today.
It’s been a long and rocky road for Futurama fans as the series continues to return in a number of unconventional ways including the recent release of the Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow video game which itself features a ton of original animation and content from Matt Groening and the original series writers.
Here’s a quick teaser of the Radiorama for your listening pleasure:
