Code Vein Boss Game Play Released

New gameplay for Code Vein has released and this time we see just how intense a boss fight can be.

The preview offers a look at the combat between two players and a large demon/gargoyle, which looks like it’s been ripped straight from a heavy metal album cover. There was also a clear flaunting of the over-sized weapon choices players will have access to.

Over the four attempts to kill the creature there was the use of a large scythe, a hammer, a giant curved sword, and a shorter albeit still anime inspired blade. The latter of which seemed to deliver the greatest effect as it was used in the only fight that finished off the creature known as, Greater Lost.

While the internet has already screamed how much the game is a Dark Souls clone, I couldn’t help but notice a few key differences. The most notable thing that sets the two games apart is the speed of combat. Both the boss and the player character seem to move more quickly and smoothly then any characters seen in a Souls game, or I’m just blind. The other key change to the formula appears to be the ability to cast buff/shield magic, which helped out greatly in the final attempt. Of course, the fact that there are no shields around might also be a factor.

So, while Code Vein has definitely taken some inspiration from the Dark Souls franchise it is a game that is willing to change the formula and tell its own unique story. Wait… “Greater Lost was Dispersed” flashed across the screen, well forget what I said.

Code Vein is being developed by Shift, published by Bandai Namco and is expected to release in 2018.
