Fortnite Battle Royal Will Be Free for Everyone Later This Month

Epic Games has surprised everyone today by announcing that on September 26, Fortnite Battle Royale will be free for everyone on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Mac.

That’s right, Fortnite’s recently released mode, Battle Royale will be free to download for everyone. And just to clarify, “everyone” doesn’t mean “everyone who purchased one of the several Fortnite Founder’s packs”, everyone actually means everyone.

For those who don’t know, Fortnite Battle Royale is a PvP mode which puts 100 players on a giant map with one task: become the last alive. This can be achieved by either avoiding other players and hoping everyone kills each other, or becoming the most bad-ass player out there. I personally opt for the former.

This mode isn’t just a copy and paste version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds however, where Fortnite Battle Royale differs is the game’s destructible environments to scavenge materials, and the ability to use said materials to craft structures.

Currently, the game only has single PvP mode, however when the the free for everyone update rolls around, the game will introduce Squads allowing players to team up.

As for Fortnite’s “Save the World” PvE campaign, this remains in paid Early Access with a number of new updates in the works, including new game modes and some Halloween content.

In other Fortnite news, earlier this week it was reported that Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC players were all in the same game, the first time cross network play has ever been spotted in the wild. Unfortunately, this was done in “error” and has since been disabled.
