Fortnite Battle Royale Saw 1 Million Players at Launch

Earlier this week, Fortnite Battle Royal, the PUBG-like spin-off of Epic Games’ PvE zombie shooter, Fortnite, launched absolutely free for everyone, and it was pretty darn popular.

While it may have similarities to PUBG, Fortnite Battle Royale has some unique selling points in the form of its squishy cartoon-like design, the ability to craft forts and other structures, and the ability to get high-value loot if you know where to look.

What it also has going for it is its availability on console before Bluehole’s PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and that’s where this game is really shining. So much so that it saw over one million players at launch.

This new mode was released along side Fortnite’s 1.63 update which came with a number improvements to the “Save the World” portion of the game. It also introduced three new weapons, and supply drops.

Fortnite is set to go fully free-to-play in 2018.
