“Strike 3 and you’re out” is something I would never like to say to The Thing because I just like keeping my face intact… Though the baseball gag does sum up The Fantastic Four franchise.
You missed the ball in 1994, but to be fair you were just trying to keep hold of the rights and I guess Fox had big plans in the future. Though I don’t think those big plans came together judging by the standard of the 2005 Fantastic Four movie and the follow up Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer.
You had another go in 2015 and boy, did you swing and miss.
Now Fox is back to the drawing board as they desperately try to keep hold of Marvels toys so they don’t have the full set. It seems like someone has finally had a light bulb idea for the franchise and talks and rumours of a Doctor Doom movie have been discussed.
The one I’m not too keen on is the junior Fantastic Four pitch… I just think I’ve got a better idea, to be honest.
Why don’t you just introduce the Fantastic Four into the X-men Universe? Think about it, right now is the best time to do it. The X-men Universe has survived a retcon in the form of the time travel adventures of Wolverine. The world has been reset and things can be added in with no questions asked. Plus, we all know the future of blockbusters is continuity and shared universes, so boom.
To help cement that, the X-men are set (fingers crossed) to blast off into space to battle the Phoenix Force. Y’know who else has some experience in fighting stuff from space? The Fantastic Four. They’ve clashed with The Skrulls and the eater of worlds, Galactus. Could Wolverine cut through The Things rock hard skin? I’d kind of be interested to find out.
Would the world fear them like they fear the X-men? Or would they embrace them?
We’ve only got one way to find out…
