Pokemon fans looking for news of UltraSun and UltraMoon were granted a surprise announcement during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct. The company unveiled their Pokeball themed New 2DS XL, due for release on November 3 of this year.

The iconic red and white design appears to have a raised bezel at its center – a design choice not scene in previous system iterations – but beyond that, it’s your typical New 2DS XL fair.

Along with this new hardware launch, Nintendo announced an eShop release of Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver, available for download on 22 September. Players who purchase the game prior to 21 September will get a free in-game Pokemon, Celebi. The rare legendary will be transferable to Pokemon UltraSun and UltraMoon when it is released on 17 November.

If you’re lucky enough to live in Japan, you’ve got even more options. Nintendo’s Japanese Twitter account announced a Pikachu themed New 2DS XL, though as of now there appears to be no plans to for a western release of the console.

Japan Exclusive Pikachu 2DS XL, deemed too cute for a western release.

System collectors were also given a sneak peek of the less exclusive White and Orange New 2DS XL, due out on 6 October. Though not linked to any specific game or series, this version might just be the next best option for non-Pokemon fans (or fans of orange creamsicles, at least).
