NetherRealm Studios has released a brand new trailer for Injustice 2 which shows of the DLC character, Raiden – from Mortal Kombat, in action.
Raiden’s inclusion in Injustice 2 was announced on August 23, along with Black Mantra and Hellboy. Raiden has been a main character in NetherRealm Studio’s other longer running fighting game series Mortal Kombat since its inception. A thunder God taking mortal form, Raiden is characterised by his lightning based attacks and quick teleportation techniques.
The trailer shows us that Raiden will play much the same as he did in Mortal Kombat X. This is good news, as Raiden still remains one of the most fun characters to play in any fighting game series. His special move is also pretty awe-inspiring: punching his opponent high into the air and savaging them with a summoned ice dragon fits well with NetherRealm’s over the top, cinematic style.
Alongside Raiden, if you can play as DC character Black Lightning as a pre-order bonus. He is simply a reskin for Raiden, though he does have his own specific dialogue.
Raiden is not the first Mortal Kombat character to creep into their Injustice series. Skorpion was a later edition to the first Injustice game, and ice ninja Sub-Zero was released as dlc for Injustice 2 earlier this year.
NetherRealm have promised to continue supporting Injustice 2 for quite some time, with studio head Ed Boon claiming that the game should end up with more additional characters than any previous release. This is impressive, since their last release Mortal Kombat X having 8 additional character released as dlc. Only time will tell how much higher they push this figure for Injustice 2.
Raiden is expected to be released for Injustice 2 next month.
