Developer Suda 51 is once again hinting at a multiplayer mode in the upcoming Switch Title Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes.

Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes was recently announced to be coming out for the Nintendo Switch. In previous games Travis worked was a friendless loser with a lightsaber and a penchant for Mexican wrestling who worked his way up to being the number one assassin in the world. This time the son of one of his slain opponents is out for revenge. Upon breaking into his trailer to try to kill him they both get sucked into a demonic video game console and presumably must work together to fight their way out.

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle introduced other playable characters but you could still only play one at a time. That may be changing, however. In an interview with Polygon, Suda 51 alluded to the possibility of multiplayer in Travis Strikes Again, stating that only one Joy-Con will be needed to play the game “[but] as you can see, there are … two main characters, so draw your own conclusions, if you want”.

Having two characters fight alongside each other really opens up the potential for even more bizarre set piece boss battles. The series is known for taking things to ludicrous levels with bosses like Destroyman; a cosplayer who gets cut in half and essentially clones himself by creating cyborg limbs for each half of his body, and Charlie McDonald; superstar football player whose cheerleaders join with him to transform into a giant mech.

Perhaps most interesting about Travis Strikes Again is that Suda 51 and Grasshopper will be working with indie devs like Dennaton Games (Hotline Miami) and Yacht Club Games (Shovel Knight) to create worlds based on those games for Travis and Badman to fight through. Will we be fighting the Black Knight this time around? We can only speculate for now.

No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again is slated for release some time in 2018 on the Nintendo Switch.
