Fortnite Surpasses 7 Million Players

Epic Games has announced that Fortnite has surpassed 7 million players, a pretty big milestone considering the main portion of the game is yet to become free-to-play.

Last month Epic Games surprised everyone with the launch of Fortnite Battle Royale, a free-to-play game mode for Fortnite for all players. It followed a similar formula to another very popular battle royale game, and instantly became a huge hit.

Ahead of the launch of Battle Royale, however, came the launch of Fortnite’s main game now dubbed “Save the World” mode. This mode is primarily a co-operative wave shooter with building elements in which players defend certain areas from incoming zombies.

While Fortnite’s “Save the World” and Battle Royale modes are completely different from each other it seems as a whole the games have become a huge hit with Epic Games announcing that there are now 7 million players playing the game.

Unfortunately we don’t quite know the split. Last we heard was that Battle Royale had 1 million players at launch, which is a pretty impressive number and there’s every possibility that these numbers have grown as well as players hopping over to the game’s Save the World mode, which currently is in Paid Early Access.

Eventually, sometime in 2018, Fortnite as a whole will become free-to-play, but already the game is doing wonders for itself with both the free PvP mode, and various updates and in-game events coming to the co-op mode.
