We’ve not had a lot of luck with live-action adaptations of anime here in the West, with Ghost in The Shell joining that long list of swing and misses, though could Fullmetal Alchemist buck that trend?
Some of the live action adaptations Japan have spawned out have gone down well like Rurouni Kenshin and others have faltered like Gatchaman. Of course, on this subject, we can’t avoid mentioning the strange and Batman Forever-like live action attempt of Attack on Titan.
But with the funding of Warner Bros could Fullmetal Alchemist, could we be on to a home run? I mean it doesn’t sound like the story has been changed much, according to the story synopsis provided:
“Two alchemist brothers go on a quest for the Philosopher’s Stone after an attempt to revive their dead mother goes horribly wrong.”
Sounds about on point. So that’s a good thing. Judging from the trailer, we won’t get the whole trailer manga adapted in one go since we can’t see Fuhrer King Bradley and no Scar, but I guess anything is possible.
Set to launch on December 1, fingers crossed Fullmetal Alchemist will officially arrive in the west at some point.
