EA to Host Virtual World Cup Along Side IRL One

Electronic Arts has announced that it’ll be holding the largest tournament ever for FIFA that’ll play alongside the World Cup in 2018.

The EA Sports FIFA 18 Global Series on The Road to FIFA eWorld Cup 2018 as it’s called, will kick off on November 3 and will see players from across the globe compete in one of the biggest competitions in FIFA history. The competition will lead all the way up to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2018, where the winner will be crowned world champion of FIFA 18 in August 2018.

The Road to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2018, the first part of this journey, will be a global multi-staged event where players will qualify based on FIFA Ultimate Team Champions Weekend League performances at various live qualifying events throughout the year. Throughout this stage, EA and FIFA will discover the top-ranked 128 competitors (64 split between Xbox One and PS4) that’ll advance to the EA Sports FIFA 18 Global Series Playoffs to become one of the successful 32.

“Last year was a pivotal achievement for competitive FIFA, engaging millions of competitors and spectators through world football and global competition,” said Todd Sitrin, SVP and GM of the Competitive Gaming Division at EA. “In partnership with FIFA, we’re accelerating the growth of competitive gaming through the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series on The Road to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2018, producing more competition, attracting more competitors and connecting with more fans than ever before.”
