Destiny 2 – Iron Banner and Prestige Raid Mode Dropping Next Week

Don't worry, it's only mildly disappointing news

Destiny 2 – Iron Banner and Prestige Raid Mode Dropping Next Week

Destiny 2’s newest update, coming October 10, will unlock the notorious Iron Banner and add a Prestige Mode to the Raid, incase it wasn’t hard enough.

However, both modes have been adjusted. Sadly, I feel like the changes to Iron Banner are going to piss some players off. In Destiny 1, the Iron Banner was enjoyable because it took players Light Levels into account. If you were at 305 Light, it showed when you went up against someone that was say 275.

The odds of you smoking that dude were higher because your Guardian was obviously stronger. Well sadly, that is the case no longer. Like all other PvP modes, the Iron Banner will be leveled out so everyone is on a level playing field. Seriously Bungie?!

The armour, as always, looks bad ass though:

In addition, Iron Banner’s bounties and ranks will be replaced, like everything else, with tokens. Reputation Tokens will be given to all players, but if you win, you get more, obviously.

The Raid will be receiving a Prestige mode along side the release of the Iron Banner. Like the Iron Banner, there will be changes from the “Hard Mode” players are familiar with from Destiny 1. The most notable change to the Prestige Mode in Destiny 2 is that this mode won’t unlock a higher level cap. BUNGIE, WTF?!

In their weekly blog Bungie wrote,  “We do not expect everyone to be successful in completing this activity. Mechanical changes to the encounters are minimal, but they are there. The Prestige Raid is about mastering a more punishing sandbox.”

“Our goal is not to provide a boon to your character progression, but there are unique rewards to help you shine. Consider this your invitation to prove to the world that you are among the very best of the Raiders who overlook the City.”

So, aside from the new armor each class will receive for completing the harder Raid, thank you datamining, it seems players won’t have much else to show for their hard work and determination…

Both the new Raid mode and the Iron Banner will go active during the weekly reset on October 10.

If you want some semblance of hope though, Bungie was sure to mention that Destiny 2 will have “seasons”. This sounds like they will somehow cap your Iron Banner and Clan progress at some point. Does this mean new “seasons” will extend our level caps and progression? I fucking hope so. A full reveal is planned for TwitchCon which is at the end of October. Until then, we’ll just have to deal with what we have I suppose.
