Robert Kirkman is Back With a New Series!

A new story begins!

You know that guy, Rob Kirkman, that created the Walking Dead and Invincible series? Well after three long years he’s back AND he has a new story for us to fall in love with!

Image announced Thursday, that Kirkman’s new series, titled “Oblivion Song“, will premiere next spring! The new sci-fi series will feature art done by Lorenzo De Felici, which will be his American debut after his time doing cover art for series like The Walking Dead and Manifest Destiny amongst others. The series will follow Nathan Cole, a man that makes continuous trips to an alternate dimension known as Oblivion to rescue survivors. The official synopsis is as follows…

“A decade ago 300,000 citizens of Philadelphia were suddenly lost in Oblivion. The government made every attempt to recover them but after many years they gave up. Nathan Cole… won’t. He makes daily trips, risking his life to try and rescue the lost, alone and afraid, living in the apocalyptic hellscape of Oblivion. But maybe… Nathan is looking for something else? Why can’t he resist the siren call of the Oblivion Song?”

Oblivion Song will be Kirkman’s first new ongoing series since he launched Outcast with artist Paul Azaceta back in 2014. Like the Walking Dead, Outcast received a TV series before it even released and debuted a Cinemax series in 2014. Invincible is currently in development as a film, while his other series Theif of Theives is currently in the works to get the TV series treatment as well. Obviously with this track record, I think it’s safe to assume we will see this new series receive some form of film/TV treatment in the future.

Apparently, Oblivion Song has been under development for over a year now, according to CBR, with a few issues already set for publication. Sadly we will still need to wait awhile until we can get our hands on the first issue, which is set to release March 7 of 2018. Keep an eye out for more information later this week with Kirkman set to make an appearance at a New York Comic-Con panel!
