Amazon Studios announced they have bought the rights to produce a TV series based on J.R.R. Tolkein’s best selling Lord of the Rings Books.
Sharon Tal Yguado, Amazon’s new head of scripts has said “The Lord of the Rings is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen,” adding that “We are honoured to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking The Lord of the Rings fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth.”
Not much is known about the upcoming series except that it is to be a prequel to the Lord of the Rings films and will tell new stories based in Middle Earth.
This is the first time Tolkein’s masterpiece will have a television series adaptation. Here’s hoping the team at Amazon is up to the task!
