Details of the next Devil May Cry game may have leaked online in a pretty big way, if a post on the ResetEra forums is to be believed.

Before I dive into this I want to add that this information is unconfirmed and we have reached out to Capcom for more information, we’ll update this post once we have a reply.

In a recent post over on the ResetEra forums, one user has posted what they claim to be information on the next Devil May Cry game. The post, which is pretty in-depth goes into great detail on why we have yet to hear anything about the game, and what the game is rumoured to contain.

The user, “Son of Sparda” doesn’t reveal how they managed to get a hold of the information, but they do claim that the document was starting to spread in amongst the DMC community and wanted to release the document “got posted in less savory places without context”.

This document, according to the post, reveals that the next Devil May Cry game will be a sequel to the last game in the main series, not Ninja Theory’s spin-off DmC: Devil May Cry. It’ll also be titled Devil May Cry V, following a similar number order to Metal Gear Solid.

As for why we’re yet to hear about the game, the user wrote that it was part of a cut Sony made for its PSX event last week.

“Originally DMCV was intended to be announced at PSX but after receiving feedback on their E3 press conference, Sony decided to scale back on PSX and instead scale up E3 2018. DMCV was an unfortunate casualty of this choice and thus it’s unlikely that DMCV gets officially revealed in 2017.”

The leak suggests the game will now see a mid-to-late 2019 release (2019 Fiscal Year), though it was originally slated for November 2018. Once the game is announced we’ll also apparently see a demo being released ahead of launch. The game will also see some sort of exclusivity with Sony, whether that’s content or the game itself. When it is announced it’ll be done at a PlayStation event / showcase.

There’s also mention of a trailer for Devil May Cry V, which is apparently ready to be released, which is “mainly focused on story, characters and cutscenes,” adding that “A city like setting is shown in the trailer not that different from Fortuna city in DMC4”.

Information surrounding the game’s development and development team have also been revealed. The game will apparently be an “ambitious” DMC title with a “broader appeal,” and has been in development for two years.

Hideaki Itsuno is set to be back on the game along with his team, as well as Yuji Shimomura as a cutscene director. Rueben Langdon is set to reprise his role as Dante, followed by Johnny Young Bosch and Dan Southworth reprising roles as Nero and Vergil, respectively. Onyay Pheori is helping with the soundtrack, and her music will be featured in the trailer.

There are also some pretty big story details, if these leaks are legit. Devil May Cry V will pick up the story after DMC4, there’ll also be more than one playable character in the game, Dante being one, Nero being another potential option. There’s set to be a total of three playable characters, the third of which is apparently a new character being described as “very powerful”. Devil May Cry V is also set to be the end of the Sons of Sparda storyline.

Finally there are plenty of gameplay mechanics and systems being revealed in this leak, such as the game targeting 60 frames per second, it’ll have a much more open feel than other games, and the stamina bar is going away. There’ll also be online elements but no PvP multiplayer.

As we stated before, I’d take this information with a massive pinch of salt. Neither Capcom nor Hideaki Itsuno have confirmed this information. Later on in the thread however there was a nod to the rumour from another user who suggested that the game WOULD be announced this year, at The Game Awards, adding to this The Game Awards host, Geoff Keighley weighed in on the post simply laughing at a parody trailer.
