The Drone Racing League (DRL) have today announced and launched the DRL Simulator, on Steam which can be used to enter the 2018 Swatch DRL Tryouts, which was also announced today.
If you’ve always wanted to become a drone racing champion but don’t have the money to get into the sport, DRL might have just changed the game… by releasing one. The DRL Simulator, which is available on Steam for a little over £15 is your ticket to becoming the next Drone Racing League champion.
How exactly? Well, by purchasing and diving into the game, players can enter the 2018 Swatch DRL Tryouts for a chance to compete in the 2018 DRL Allianz World Championship Season, with a $75,000 professional contract. Swatch has extended their relationship with DRL to become the title sponsor of the 2018 Tryouts.
“We’re incredibly excited to partner with Swatch and announce the 2018 Swatch DRL Tryouts, aimed to find the next great drone pilot through a global eSport tournament,” said DRL CEO and Founder, Nicholas Horbaczewski. “We encourage drone fans around the world to download the DRL Simulator, which blends the virtual and real worlds of professional drone racing, and to enter the 2018 Swatch DRL Tryouts for a chance to fly the world’s most insane race courses.”
The competition begins today and will conclude on January 15, followed by a live eSport tournament to be streamed globally. The winner of the Swatch DRL Tryouts will fly as the designated Swatch pilot throughout the 2018 Championship Series.
To compete live in the 2018 Swatch DRL Tryouts players will race Levels 1-5 of the DRL 2017 season in the DRL Simulator. The race will feature real maps of the racecourses from the 2017 season, including Miami Nights, Atlanta Aftermath, Mardi Gras World, Boston Foundry, and the Munich Playoffs.
The top 24 players with the lowest cumulative time from all five levels will earn a spot in the live esports-style tournament that’ll be held on February 3, 2018.
