Neverwinter Nights was originally released in 2002 by Bioware. Now Beamdog, made up of ex-Bioware devs are bringing us the enhanced edition.
This follows on from their enhanced editions of other classic RPGs like Baldurs Gate 1 & 2, Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment, which were fairly well received.
Like their other works, Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition will feature all the expansion packs released for the original game, updated graphics options for modern displays such as scaling the UI to fit higher resolutions, as well as new post-processing effects like depth of field and new pixel shaders to make the graphics crisp and clear.
It’s most notable feature is the fact that it will be compatible with your old saves so you can pick up right where you left off back in 2002 if you kept those lying around.
If you’ve never played Neverwinter Nights this is the time to pick it up. The original has not aged well graphically but its gameplay and story are well remembered for a reason. On top of those it also has a very easy to use and in depth campaign creator, which is what most people remember it for. Levels can be shared publicly and taken on with other players online.
There is no set release date yet but you can pre-order the game on Steam. If you’d like to read more about CRPGs have a look at our Beginner’s Guide to CRPGs. It’s great if you want to get into the genre or you just love reading about it.
