The rumours are true! Niantic Labs (Pokemon Go!) and Warner Bros. are joining forces to create Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. An augmented reality game allowing the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to merge with our humble reality.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will allow players to explore the world of magic while exploring the real world, via the pioneering Augmented Reality tech behind Pokemon Go! This mobile game will encourage players to explore their surroundings in order to learn spells they can cast, encounter Fantastic Beasts, uncover magical artifacts and meet familiar faces along the way.
John Hanke, founder and CEO of Niantic Inc., offered these comments:
“At Niantic, our goal is to leverage technology to create real world experiences that help people to discover the wonderful, and often magical parts of the world around them. The beloved Harry Potter stories have captured imaginations worldwide for more than 20 years and soon we’ll turn the fantasy into augmented reality, allowing fans and their friends to become wizards and witches.”
David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Interactive, went on to add the following: “It is wonderful to have Niantic’s remarkable augmented reality expertise as we develop this incredibly rich wizarding world for players to explore in their everyday lives.”
Just what the game is set to look like remains to be seen but we’re promised more details in 2018. For now head over to the game’s website and sign up to the newsletter in order to receive the latest updates.
Needless to say, with Harry Potter being the worldwide phenomenon it is, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is set to explode right from the off. Hopefully the content updates are handled better than with Niantic’s original project, Pokemon Go!
