This week gaming company Razer unveiled the Razer Phone, a brand new android-powered smartphone with a strong focus on gamers.
After being rumoured for months, gaming peripheral and hardware company Razer has unveiled their flagship smartphone, aptly named Razer Phone. Unfortunately it has no resemblance to the incredibly popular Motorola Razr flip phone from the early 2000s instead it’s an incredibly powerful smartphone aimed at gamers.
The Razer Phone is an Androind-powered smartphone which comes with “groundbreaking audiovisual technologies and processing muscle” and surprisingly it comes with a pretty decent size battery without sacrificing comfort.
So what’s so special about the Razer Phone? Well first it comes with the world’s first 120Hz Ultramotion display which offers the fastest refresh rates in a smartphone to date thanks to UltraMotion’s technology which synchronises the GPU and display to remove any unwanted image tearing or lag. The screen itself is a 5.72-inch Quad HD IGZO LCD display.
As for the audio part, well Razer is following trends right now and have ditched the 3.5mm audio jack in favour of a THX-certified USB-C audio adapter. The phone on the other hand comes with Dolby Atmos tech and has dual front-firing speakers with dedicated amplifiers.
In terms of power, the Razer Phone boasts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform supported by 8GB RAM. All of this is powered by a whopping 4,000 mAh battery, one of the largest batteries found in smartphones today. With normal use, this battery will likely last most of the day, however the focus here is with gaming and mobile entertainment.
“It’s common knowledge that I’m obsessed with my smartphones, I play a ton of games on them, and they’re my go-to for streaming content,” said Razer Co-Founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan. “We have wanted to make a phone with gaming-level tech for years, and the Razer Phone delivers in every way we imagined.”
How much is this going to set us back? Well when the phone launches on November 17 a lucky 1,337 (LEET, get it?) will be able to grab the Razer Phone Special Edition that’ll come with the company’s iconic triple-headed snake logo from Three stores in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, at Razer Stores in San Francisco and online in the US and Canada via Razer’s website, all for the recommended retail price of £699.99.
The standard edition of the Razer Phone, which will feature a chrome version of the logo will also be available at the same price.
The only thing the Razer Phone is missing, is an array of RGB LED’s surrounding the phone. But alas, we can’t all be winners.
