The Pokémon Company has today unveiled the next Pokémon TCG expansion, and the first for 2018; Sun & Moon—Ultra Prism.
Coming February 2, 2018, Sun & Moon—Ultra Prism will echo the story line from the recently released Ultra Aun and Ultra Moon video games and have players visit an alternative version of Sinnoh. The new expansion will see a number of new cards being added to the game as well as the addition of a new mechanic through the introduction of Prism Star cards.
Pokemon TCG: Sun & Moon—Ultra Prism is set to bring with it 150 cards including six Prism Star cards, 5 Ultra Beasts, 18 full-art cards, and a whole set of new Booster Cards to collect.
So how does this new Prism Star mechanic work? Well, these powerful Pokémon and Trainer cards are capable of completely altering the balance of the match, so much so that players are only allowed one Prism Star card with a given name in their deck (as opposed to the usual four).
Unfortunately how this will change the game is yet to be unveiled, but I’m sure we’ll see more near the expansions release. Until then check out some new artwork for Pokemon TCG: Sun & Moon—Ultra Prism.
For the last Pokémon TCG expansion launch, we got the chance to attend a pre-release tournament. You can read all about that in our recap.
