The anime series Yu Yu Hakusho has been popular ever since it first hit Japanese television in 1992 and US television in the early 2001. In honor of the show’s 25th anniversary, there will be new Blu-Ray editions of the series released with an all-new anime special in the collection.

The information about this new special was gotten from a photo taken at Jump Festa 2018, an annual comic expo sponsored by Shueisha Inc., which publishes many manga magazines, most notably Weekly Shonen Jump. As such, there is not much known at this moment about the nature of the special right now regarding its content or its length. Regardless, it will be exciting to see the old crew again in a new outing.

Yu Yu Hakusho started life as a manga by Yoshihiro Togashi. Yusuke, a teenage delinquent who has never done much good for anybody, saves a child from certain death by pushing him out of the way of an oncoming car–and is killed himself. Yusuke is sent back to the human world as an underworld detective, meant to investigate spiritual disturbances there. Detective stories often morphed into fighting tournaments à la Dragonball and Dragonball Z, and vice versa. A memorable cast helps color the show.

The manga is 175 chapters and the original anime consists of 112 episodes, two films, and several OVAs. The complete manga series is readily available outside of Japan, as are most of the anime adaptations, though the dubbed versions may vary in quality.

According to Pierrot Co., Ltd’s website, the series will be split into four Blu-Ray volumes. In Japan, the first volume will go on sale on July 27, 2018, the second volume on August 28, 2018, the third on September 26, 2018, and the final volume will be out on October 26, 2018. It is not known which set will contain the special.

English release dates for these Blu-Ray collections have not been announced at this time.
