Nintendo released a new trailer for Pokémon Crystal on the Virtual Console, showing the release date of January 26.
The second generation of Pokémon is arguably one of the best ones, at least I have the most nostalgia for it but even without that nostalgia Pokémon Crystal stands up as a great game. Not only did it double the size of the game world, including the Johto and Kanto regions in one game, it also added 100 new Pokémon, hunting for legendaries and growing berries.
Pokémon Crystal coming out on the 3DS virtual console is more than just a simple re release though. While I’m sure many fans of the series already have a version of Gold, Silver or Crystal, the nice thing about this one is that it makes use of the 3DS wireless features. The virtual console version of the game will allow you to trade and do battle using 3DS wireless communication but most important for Pokémon trainers is its compatibility with Pokémon Bank.
Yes, Pokémon Crystal on VC is more than just a nostalgia trip, it’ll make it easier to complete your Pokédex with all the second generation Pokémon that can be so elusive these days.
Pokémon Crystal version will be released on Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console on January 26. A price hasn’t been mentioned yet but it will most likely be $9.99 like Gold and Silver on the Virtual Console.
