Need for Speed Payback publisher EA Games has announced that Online Free Roam would be coming to the game via an update, completely free of charge.
That’s right, EA Games surprised everyone this New Year with the announcement that Online Free Roam would be coming to Need for Speed Payback in 2018. No specific date was revealed, but I’m sure that’s good news enough, right?
Online free roam isn’t exactly a novel feature, it’s a mode that’s available in almost every racing game which has online play, including past Need for Speed games, so it seemed odd that EA and Ghost Games would leave it out at launch. The only way to actually free-roam in Need for Speed Payback is when waiting for a lobby to fill up, which doesn’t take too long.
The fact that someone had to confirm that this mode was coming to the game for free does however go to show just how shitty the new Need for Speed is in terms of paid content. Aside from the game’s microtransactions, the initial round of “free” content was only really available for free to those who owned the Deluxe Edition of the game.
Need for Speed Payback‘s free roam mode is currently still being worked on according to the game’s Twitter account, but hey, at least it’s coming, right?
