At the tail end of last year we learned that Netflix is planning a series based on Archie Comics’ Sabrina The Teenage Witch series. Now, the company has unveiled who’ll be starring in the titular role.
The upcoming Sabrina series, which is currently unnamed, is set to act as a companion series to the popular teen drama, Riverdale. It’s set to be based on the comics of the same name and will have a much darker, grittier feel than that to Riverdale.
While the title, plot, and how they plan to include Sabrina in the Riverdale universe, is currently unknown, what we know now is that Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka will be taking the role of Sabrina Spellman.
“We’re all such huge fans of Kiernan’s work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her names was on everyone’s wish list,” said showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. “This is a darker, more macabre version of Sabrina, and we’re incredibly excited for people to see Kiernan make this iconic character her own.”
There’s currently no release date for the upcoming series, however we do know that production is set to begin in February this year.
