In the final week of 2017 Call of Duty: WW2 remained on top and is well on its way to becoming one of the best selling games in the Call of Duty franchise.
With Call of Duty: WW2 on top during the Christmas period, it comes as no surprise that it’s still number one as we enter the new year. During the final week of 2017 Activision’s latest shooter remained on top giving the game its ninth number one overall. This puts the game on par with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and it if gets just two more weeks will top Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and will be the most number one’s for a Call of Duty game.
Interestingly, the full-year’s stats put Call of Duty: WW2 in second place as the best selling game of the year. EA Sports’ FIFA 18 actually scores that crown, though FIFA 18 has been on sale for five weeks longer than Call of Duty: WW2, so that gives it somewhat of an advantage.
That being said, physical sales of FIFA are actually down compared to FIFA 17, GfK notes that the number of units sold in the UK is down by 16.2 percent. Of course, this doesn’t yet take into account digital sales, which is where the game most likely makes up numbers.
While we’re on the topic of EA, the disaster that was the launch of Star Wars Battlefront 2 has shown to harm sales this year as the shooter is down 51 percent compared to sales of Battlefield 1. It’s also down 49% compared with EA’s first Star Wars Battlefront game – ouch.
Elsewhere in the charts plenty of Switch games have made their way back into the top-ten likely due to many people receiving a Nintendo Switch for Christmas and running out after Christmas to grab a new game.
