If you have been watching AMC recently, you have probably seen the quick ads for James Cameron’s upcoming Story of Science Fiction series that outlines the big names appearing on the show. However, AMC has uploaded an even more enticing teaser trailer on their website.
The teaser trailer is short, but it packs a punch: James Cameron, a T800’s metallic skull flashing over his face, tells viewers that science fiction “doesn’t have all the answers, but it sure asks the big questions.” We then see some of the other big names the television trailer for the documentary series asking these big questions: Sigourney Weaver asks what it means to be human, Christopher Nolan ponders time travel, Steven Spielberg considers the end of the world, Keanu Reeves reflects on social impact and response, and finally, Ridley Scott admonishes those who don’t ask, “What if?”
We then see clips of other stars that are pretty much similar to the regular television trailer: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Guillermo del Toro, George Lucas, Paul Verhoeven, and Zoe Saldana. All actors or creators that are iconic in the genre. Some of the monoliths of sci-fi films flash across the screen as well: Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and The Matrix are just a few listed, and even Stranger Things appears in the same list.
In each of the six hour-long episodes, Cameron will pose one of his “big questions”–presumably the questions of what it means to be human, social impact, and the others heard in the teaser trailer, will be some of them–that man has contemplated pretty much since man started being, well, man. The show will then look at how sci-fi through the ages has informed and dealt with these questions, and where sci-fi may move forward.

The series will premiere on April 30, at 10/9 PM Central on AMC.
