State of Decay 2 could be coming to Steam as well as Xbox One and Windows 10, that is if an error message is to be believed.
While the original State of Decay eventually found its way onto Steam, its follow-up is currently only scheduled to launch on Xbox One and Windows 10. However it’s looking likely that State of Decay 2 will also find its way onto Steam.
During one of Undead Labs’ livestreams at PAX East, an error message reared its ugly head warning the player that “Steam login” had failed. The VoD has been removed from Twitch archive, but not before someone could take a cheeky screengrab.
While this might not seem out of the ordinary, it’s interesting because State of Decay 2 is one of Microsoft’s upcoming first-party titles due for release on Xbox and the Microsoft Store, not Steam. This is in order to support Play Anywhere – Microsoft’s initiative to allow players to play their digital game on both Xbox and Windows 10 PCs.
In a statement to IGN, Microsoft was of course mum on the whole ordeal:
“As with any game, Undead Labs uses a variety of tools during active development. We’re focused on getting State of Decay 2 out on Xbox One and Windows 10 on May 22, 2018 (May 18th for Ultimate Edition Early Access). We don’t have anything further to share.”
State of Decay 2 launches on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs on May 22. Players who have purchased the Ultimate Edition will gain early access on May 18. The game will also be a part of Xbox’s Game Pass.
