The Deux Ex isn’t dead, apparently, but we’ve heard very little in the way of any new developments for the long running series from Eidos Montreal.
Deus Ex developer Eidos Montreal have confirmed that the series is not dead, however the studio has plenty on their plate in terms of future releases. First of all, the developers are working on Shadow of the Tomb Raider which is likely taking up a ton of time. Adding to that is the Avengers project which Square Enix announced last year. They also have a third unannounced game in development.
“Deus Ex, of course, it’s the brand of the studio. We are all attached to this franchise, but we cannot do everything, you know? So we have Shadow of the Tomb Raider, we have this co-development with Crystal [Dynamics] on The Avengers, and we have a third game in development, so it’s enough at the moment for us,” said Eidos Montreal studio head David Anfossi in an interview.
This comes after Square Enix themselves confirmed that, despite the poor reception of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, the company is still looking at potential directions for the series.
So it’s not dead, but it’s not living right now, it’s just sitting on ice for the time being. If anything were to come from the franchise, it won’t be for some time.
