It’s been announced that Halo and Destiny developer Bungie, has received a sizeable investment from Chinese tech and gaming company, NetEase, to “explore new directions”.
The partnership, which comes in at a cool $100 million, gives NetEase a minority stake in the developer, as well as a seat on the board of directors. The idea is for the cash to be used to help Bungie to expand outside of Destiny and ultimately become their own publisher on future titles.
“We are excited to partner with Bungie as they transform from a single franchise development team into a global, multi-franchise entertainment studio,” said NetEase CEO and Director, William Ding in a press release.
“This new partnership will enable us to accelerate our global vision, while building new teams dedicated to delivering brand-new experiences,” said Bungie CEO, Pete Parsons.
Bungie also adds that its partnership between Activision for their latest game franchise, Destiny, is unaffected and plans to continue the franchise for a long time coming.
