In what could only really be described as a weird crossover, Jim Carrey is currently negotiating to star as Dr. Robotnik in the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog movie according to Variety.

Apparently, the movie will be a cross of live action and CGI, which is a little bit of a shame because I’d kill to see a practical effects Sonic The Hedgehog film with Jim Carrey. The plot of the movie will of course be similar to the running plot of the games, Sonic must stop Dr. Robotnik from completing his plans for world domination. Whether he’ll be constructing a Death Egg is yet to be seen, but we can only hope.

Sonic the Hedgehog has taken many forms throughout the years, spanning comics, cartoons (lets ignore Sonic Boom) and of course games. While we’ve had many, many movie adaptations of game franchises and while none of them have ever really been ‘Good’, except for the Mario Brothers one (Ed. Note: REALLY?!?), could Sonic be the turning point for the Film and Gaming crossover?

As they’re still in talks with actors for MAJOR roles, it’s safe to say the Sonic the Hedgehog movie is a little ways off for now.

Personally, I’m excited to see Jim Carrey as Robotnik, purely for the fact that I can only see it being terrible. Hopefully they prove me wrong and we can review it with a legitimate 10/10.
