Recently, Paramount announced its synopsis of the upcoming remake of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary and some more of the new movie’s cast.
If you’re familiar with the 1983 Stephen King book or the first film adaptation (1989) and its sequel, aptly named Pet Sematary 2 (1992), you probably already know what Paramount told us a few days ago. But just in case you’re not, here’s the official word:
“Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.”
The other cast members that were newly announced are Jeté Laurence (The Snowman) and debuting three-year-old twins Hugo and Lucas Lavoie. Laurence will be playing Ellie Creed, Louis and Rachel’s daughter, whose love of her cat sets off the supernatural events of the story. The Lavoie boys will be playing Gage Creed, the family’s toddler.
It was announced last fall that Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer will be teaming up again (Holidays) to direct this remake and Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian will be teaming up again (Transformers) to produce it. Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train) and David Kajganich (A Bigger Splash) have written the remake’s script together.
