Almost two years later, Pokémon Go is finally getting the much-requested social features of trading Pokémon and adding friends. After plenty of updates, new Pokémon, and the addition of Raids, players will soon be able to communicate in-app and trade Pokémon they might not have managed to get before.
Players will be able to add each other as friends within Pokémon Go by sharing their Trainer Codes. They’ll be able to add upto 200 friends. Once added, friends will then be updated on their activities in-game such as their status, recently caught Pokémon and more.
As for Trading, this oft-requested feature will be available to players that are Level 10 or higher and within close proximity. Legendary Pokémon, Shiny Pokémon, or Pokémon not currently in a player’s Pokédex can only be traded once a day using a new Special Trade feature. Trades will also be making use of Stardust with the amount needed varying based on the Pokémon and the level of friendship between the two players.
That’s right, friends themselves can level up Friendship Level through spinning a Photo Discs at Pokéstops which will now reward players with a Gift, however the Gifts can’t be opened, instead they’re used to send to friends. These gifts will feature items such as potions, as well as a postcard on where the Gift was picked up. Some Gifts will also feature an Egg that, when hatched, will contain an Alolan form of a Pokémon in the Kanto region.
Friendship Levels can also be increased by battling together through either Gym or Raid Battles and can earn Attack bonuse, Trading can also increase Friendship Levels. Players can increase their Friendship Level once per day, per friend.
