Candy Crush developer King has this week launched a brand new mobile game, Legend of Solgard, which blends its famed match-three puzzling with strategic battles.
Think Candy Crush, but without the massive grid full of candy and more fantasy creatures such as Bears, Elves, and others, When three are matched, unleash attacks on enemies and eventually their portal ultimately winning the match.
It’s actually a really clever expansion on an already familiar concept which makes Legend of Solgard pretty damn fun to play. It’s similar but also different from Candy Crush, or Bubble Witch, games that King are most famous for.
As you might expect, the game has a pretty lengthy campaign featuring nine worlds all made up of little battles which, as players progress, will unlock more creatures for players to match and battle with. There are also Boss and Hero Arenas too, which ramps up the strategy somewhat.
Legend of Solgard also features Treasure Caves and Dungeons offering different ways to play aside from the games typical match-three battles.
“We’re excited to partner with King to launch Legend of Solgard – our first RPG battler. Legend of Solgard combines puzzle combat with character collection in a world rich with Norse Mythology,” said Alexander Ekvall, CEO and co-founder of Snowprint Studios, the developer behind Legend of Solgard. “Our focus has been to offer players a unique and immersive experience, with plenty of depth and personality. It’s time to Ragnarok…!”
