QuakeCon is taking place this weekend, and during Bethesda’s keynote at the event, the company announced that Quake Champions is now permanently free-to-play.
Quake Champions has been in Steam’s Early Access since 2017 giving players the chance to essentially buy into the game’s beta ahead of its full release. During E3 2018, Bethesda did reveal that a “free trial” would be open to all players, but now they’ve taken that one step further.
During the annual QuakeCon keynote, Bethesda announced that a permanent free-to-play version of Quake Champions is now available to players as well as a paid Starter and Champions Pack.
Quake Champions has always intended to be free-to-play, so the news is a welcome surprise that it happened so soon. The game is, however, still in Early Access though when it does fully launch the game will remain free with only the Champions Pack on offer.
