Sir Patrick Stewart has confirmed that he’ll be reprising his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in an upcoming Star Trek series for CBS All Access.
At the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas, Stewart revealed that he would once again be leading the crew of the Enterprise in an upcoming CBS series that would return to the Next Generation era of the show.
Stewart also posted a statement on Twitter saying that it was an “unexpected but delightful surprise,” and that he was “excited and invigorated to be returning” to the show.

The last time Stewart appeared on screen as Jean-Luc Pickard was back in 2002 in Star Trek: Nemesis. Before that, he starred in the Star Trek: Next Generation series which ran fro 1987 through to 1994, as well as four movies which followed the series.
As for the new show, according to Deadline that the show won’t be a reboot and instead will follow the “next chapter” of Picard’s life. Stewart also confirmed at the convention in Las Vegas that the script hasn’t been written yet.
