It’s been reported that the Spyro Reignited Trilogy will come with only one game pre-loaded on the disc, meaning players will have to download the rest.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy‘s release is right around the corner, ready to bring delight to millions of people’s homes and all those sweet sweet memories flooding back for millions more. Except for the egg thief, fuck that guy. However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows as Spyro Reignited Trilogy looks likely to be only shipping with the first game on the disc.
Following the reveal of the box art online the words “Requires Content Download” appear emblazoned on the cover. When the Spyro Reignited Trilogy arrives on September 21 it will require quite a hefty content download in order for you to play Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage and Spyro: Year of the Dragon.
Day-one updates are becoming an ever increasingly common occurrence as final tweaks to a title are performed between shipping and release. However, they are not usually this gargantuan an update. This is especially odd given that the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy shipped with all three titles included on the disc in their gloriously remastered forms!
While speaking to PS Lifestyle, Activision offered the following comment:
“The global launch date of Spyro Reignited Trilogy is September 21; and we’re excited for fans to play all three reignited games on that day. As with most games today, downloading an update after purchase is quite common,” Activision’s statement reads.
“The language on packaging and on the web is to let players know the requirements for Spyro Reignited Trilogy.”
While they are not wrong, such massive content updates are uncommon on PS4 and Xbox One platforms. Despite being more common practice on Switch, this is still highly unusual and the exact size of the download remains unknown, however with the release just over a month away we don’t have to wait long!
