Final Fantasy Returns to Nintendo Consoles

More exciting news pours in from the last night’s predictably amazing Nintendo Direct; the Final Fantasy series will be making its triumphant, fully fledged, numbered return to Nintendo systems.

Once upon a time Squaresoft (now Square-Enix) and Nintendo were bosom buddies, with some of the best games ever made with each other including Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG and starting the entire Final Fantasy series on Nintendo. Then the dark times came… Sony and Nintendo at one point partnered to create a disk-based, add-on for the SNES.

As you may know, this partnership sadly collapsed under the weight of its own potential. To cut a long break up story short Squaresoft was Team Sony for decades. The planned Final Fantasy sequel was shelved and Final Fantasy VII became one of the original PlayStation’s standard bearers. All is well in the world again. The tumultuous history between Square-Enix and Nintendo is over. Final Fantasy has come home.

Most importantly The classic numbered titles Final Fantasy VII, IX, X | X-2 HD Remaster and XII THE ZODIAC AGE will all be available on the Nintendo Switch in 2019. Where’s the love for VIII? I need some Gunblade slashing and T-Rex drawing action!

Joining the recently announced Crystal Chronicles remaster is two more spin-off titles World Of Final Fantasy Maxima (releasing November 6, 2018) and Chocobo’s Mysterious Dungeon EVERY BUDDY!!

Now available in the e-Shop is Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD, a streamlined version of the 2016 triple A, behemoth, roleplaying title which has also found its way onto Xbox One and PS4. Gone are the side-quests and open world, instead Pocket Edition HD is a more focused, linear take on FFXV. Currently on offer in the eShop until September 20, 2018 with 40% off £15.00 (normal price £25.00).

This all bodes well for the future of one of gaming’s most venerable franchises and Nintendo’s hybrid console. I can’t wait for Tactics HD, Crisis Core HD, and Chocobo Racing HD. Stay tuned to n3rdabl3 for more Final Fantasy info and in the meantime crack open an elixir and check out the trailer below!
